Project Notes
How This Project Came Together
Light gray-oak LVP has been the dominant color story in Metro Atlanta renovations for the past four or five years, and for good reason. The gray-oak color family hits a specific note — cool enough to read as contemporary, warm enough to not feel clinical — that works with the region's renovation aesthetic: soft gray walls, white or cream trim, stainless appliances, and the mix of traditional architecture and transitional interior design that defines most Marietta and north Atlanta suburb homes.
This Marietta home's project covered the living room, dining area, two bedrooms, and a connecting hallway — approximately 1,100 square feet on a concrete slab foundation. The previous floor covering was a mix of carpet in the bedrooms and aging vinyl sheet in the common areas, a patchwork that had developed height transitions between zones. Installing a single LVP product throughout eliminated those transitions and created a visual continuity the house had never had.

SPC core LVP installs over concrete without adhesive or moisture barrier in most Atlanta-area slab applications — the stone-polymer composite core is dimensionally stable enough to handle the humidity variation of a Georgia summer and winter without expanding and contracting the way a wood-core floating floor would. We checked the slab for levelness across each room before clicking boards into place; one zone in the living room near the fireplace hearth had a high spot that required grinding before the floor could go down flat.
The six photographs in this documentation are from companion jobs completed across the same two-week period in Duluth, Lawrenceville, Atlanta, Roswell, and Alpharetta — all the same light gray-oak specification, different room configurations. The Duluth living and dining room shows how the gray-oak reads with wainscoting: the floor's cool tone and the white wainscoting create a palette that's almost Scandinavian in its restraint. The Alpharetta dining room with a tray ceiling and chandelier shows the other end of the spectrum — the same cool floor under a formal, ornamented ceiling.

The Roswell open living room and kitchen is the most useful image for homeowners deciding between light gray-oak and warmer LVP options. In a room with white cabinetry, quartz countertops, and stainless appliances, the light gray-oak reads as an extension of the kitchen's cool palette — the floor and the kitchen materials form a coherent whole. A warm honey or brown LVP in the same room would create a contrast that some homeowners want and others find discordant.
Light gray-oak with a click-lock SPC system is a practical choice that holds up in real life the way it looks in photographs. The wear layer on a commercial-grade SPC floor handles pet traffic, dropped utensils, and daily foot traffic without the micro-scratch accumulation that site-finished hardwood shows under the same conditions. These homes have been occupied for six months to a year since installation, and the floors continue to look like they did on installation day — which is what LVP buyers are paying for.
